The Sonoma Valley Unified School District and its teachers’ union appear to be avoiding a possible strike. On Thursday, the district and the Valley of the Moon Teachers Association reached a tentative agreement on a new contract. Neither side has announced the terms of the agreement. In August, members of the teachers’ association voted unanimously in favor of authorizing a strike. At the time, Dennis Housman, co-president of the VMTA, said the district was trying to get teachers to work longer hours without extra pay.
