Santa Rosa Looking at Making Budget Cuts in January 2025

Large budget cuts are likely coming to Santa Rosa in the new year. On Tuesday, the city council backed most budget cut suggestions brought by city staff that could see up to $29-million being cut. Staff found about $6.2 million in vacant positions, outside contracts and other operational cuts; about $4.8 million in savings coming from adjustments to the budget; and just over $21 million in one-time cuts. City Manager Maraskeshia Smith told the city council that the cuts are unlikely to have a significant impact on city services. The Santa Rosa city council is likely to approve some cuts in January as part of a mid year budget adjustment with other cuts to be decided down the road.
