Sonoma Valley Unified School Board Continues Discussions Around School Closures

Possible school closure discussions continued in Sonoma Valley this week. On Tuesday, the Sonoma Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees held a wide-ranging study session on school consolidation citing declining school enrollment. There were just over 4,000 students in 1999 and now there are just under 3,000. Options include shutting down either Altamira or Adele Harrison Middle School, closing one of the elementary schools, or establishing new class configurations, such as K-8 or K-6 schools. The board could make a decision as soon as November 14th.
