It’s still unclear which route Santa Rosa City Schools will ultimately take for its planned school closures.
Town hall meetings to discuss school closure plans were held at two high schools earlier this week. The district introduced four new scenarios that serve as alternatives to the first recommended school closure model. The original model has at least three elementary schools, one middle school and one high school closing to meet the goal of saving at least $11 million per year for the next two years.
Three of the four new scenarios require a high school closure and would see more middle schools shut down than initially discussed. Many community members have been advocating for keeping all high schools open.
