A large tree fell onto a building at Steele Lane Elementary School in Santa Rosa late Monday morning, the likely result of rain-soaked soil and strong winds.
School officials confirm the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. outside the multipurpose building. While the structure sustained some damage, thankfully, no injuries were reported. Two staff members were inside at the time, but classes were not disrupted. The incident comes as Sonoma County braces for more heavy rain and gusty winds. Forecasters predict up to six inches of rain in some areas, with wind gusts reaching 30 miles per hour.
While this system is expected to move more quickly than previous atmospheric rivers, it still poses a risk. Rain is expected to continue throughout the week, though the heaviest downpours should subside by midweek.
