Montgomery High School Students Concerned About IB Program

Students at Montgomery High School are worried their challenging and highly-regarded International Baccalaureate program could be in jeopardy.

The school is one of several being considered for closure, and while district officials say the IB program can be moved, it’s a complicated undertaking. The program, one of only a few in Northern California, requires specialized training for teachers and a rigorous accreditation process. School officials acknowledge the difficulty of relocating the program and its trained staff, particularly given potential teacher layoffs.

While the district says a move is possible, parents and community members are concerned the program won’t survive a closure. They’re urging the school board to consider the impact on the IB program when making their final decision later this month.
