Hundreds of protesters rallied outside Tesla showrooms across the Bay Area on Saturday, calling for a boycott of the electric car company.
The demonstrations were sparked by Elon Musk’s recent appointment as a ‘special government employee’ and his role leading the White House’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. Protesters expressed concerns over potential cuts to diversity funding and access to private taxpayer data.
From San Jose to Sunnyvale, demonstrators held signs and chanted, criticizing Musk’s involvement in government and urging consumers to consider alternatives to Tesla. Organizers argued that Musk, as a private citizen, should not hold such significant government influence. They also voiced concerns about the power of wealthy individuals in government.
The protests, organized by groups like Together We Will and Indivisible, aimed to send a message against what they called an ‘administrative coup.
