Former Sundance Film Festival Executive Named Artistic Director of Healdsburg’s True West Film Center

Former Sundance Film Festival executive John Cooper has returned to his roots to become the artistic director of the True West Film Center in Healdsburg.

His arrival coincides with the construction of the center’s new home, the James Redford Campus, a three-screen cinema and educational hub set to open in September.

The 8,000-square-foot facility, funded by a $5.6 million venture capital campaign, will feature films, educational programs, and a community gathering space. Cooper envisions the center as a vital part of Healdsburg, fostering connection and conversation. The center is named after the late documentary filmmaker James Redford, son of Robert Redford, who may even make an appearance at the opening.

Local leaders see the film center as an economic driver and a cultural asset, attracting visitors and boosting the local economy.
