Marin Municipal Water District is moving forward with a major plan to boost its water supply.
The district board has approved plans to design and review a new 13-mile pipeline to bring more water from Sonoma County into Marin’s reservoirs. This aims to improve drought resilience.
The $168 million project would tap into an existing aqueduct, potentially adding up to 4,750 acre-feet of water annually to Nicasio Reservoir. This is part of a larger strategy to secure an additional 6,500 acre-feet per year.
While the board shelved a controversial plan to expand Soulajule Reservoir due to community concerns, they’re prioritizing the pipeline and exploring other options, including expanding Kent Lake.
The project is seen as a significant step towards long-term water security for Marin County.
