A student at Sonoma State University is dead after he was involved in a traffic incident yesterday afternoon in Rohnert Park. Police say the 21-year-old student was crossing the street on East Cotati Avenue when a car hit him and then drove away. Police say the driver later called them to turn himself in. He is identified as 19-year-old Ronald Gaither from Penngrove. Police say it appears the victim did not use the crosswalk at the time of the accident, and that he stepped out in front of Gaither’s car. Police are investigating to determine if Gaither was distracted at the time of the accident.
