Three More Covid Deaths Reported as Covid Cases Surge

The summer surge of coronavirus cases continues in Sonoma County, and more deaths have been reported. Health officials reported three coronavirus deaths yesterday bringing the overall death toll in the county to 337. Active cases have risen to 2247 marking the first time we’ve crossed the 2,000 mark since mid- February. As of Sunday, there were 70 people with the coronavirus in local hospitals.

Looking at the state, California’s seven-day positivity rate is down slightly after steadily rising since the middle of June. Public health officials say the current seven-day rate is 6.3%. This is down from a recent peak of 7.1% on August 1st. The rate was less than one-percent on June 15th when the state ended most of its COVID restrictions. As for Sonoma County, our testing positivity rate is 8.4%.
