A 27-year-old Santa Rosa man will be sentenced today for charges related to a Highway 101 crash that killed his 16-year-old female passenger. Jhovanne Velazquez faces up to five years in prison after pleading no contest in October to charges of hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence and driving without a valid license. The charges stem from early morning crash on July 24th when Velazquez’s Toyota Camry drifted off the freeway, near Yolanda Avenue. The car ended up going down an embankment and through a ditch before hitting a chain link fence and two trees. It landed upside down and caught fire killing 16-year-old Yaquelin Garcia Magdaleno. Velazquez fled the scene with injuries and was arrested a few days later.
