Sonoma County Temporarily Banning Large Events Due to Omicron

The surge in coronavirus cases has prompted Sonoma County Health Officer Dr Sundari Mase to issue a temporary ban on large events in the county.
“We believe these steps are necessary to reduce the likelihood that many indidiuals will be exposed to Covid-19 at a single event,” Dr. Mase said. “We will thereby slow the spread of the Omicron variant in our community.”
This applies to events of 50+ people indoors, or more than 100 people outdoors. North Bay League Commissioner Jan Smith Billing says this will not mean that school sports competitions will be cancelled. Instead, only parents or guardians will be allowed to attend basketball games and wrestling matches. Large concerts at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in the next month will either be postponed or cancelled. The order also encourages everyone, regardless of vaccination status, to voluntarily stay home as much as possible for the next 30 days, and to limit interactions with people outside of one’s immediate household.
