California lawmakers are a step closer to passing legislation that would make it easier for farmworkers to vote in union elections, but the Governor may be standing in the way of it becoming law. The state Senate passed legislation yesterday that would give agricultural workers the choice to cast ballots by mail in union elections, in addition to voting in-person. The Senate vote comes after thousands of farmworkers completed their 24-day march across the state from Delano to Sacramento. Backers of the bill say it would make union elections more accessible and boost representation. However, the Governor is not satisfied with the legislation and is prepared to veto it.
