A state assembly committee chair is urging Governor Gavin Newsom to sign over 20 bills confronting the fentanyl and overdose crisis. Assemblyman Matt Haney of San Francisco put out a statement regarding the work of the Assembly’s Fentanyl, Opioid Addiction, and Overdose Prevention Committee. Haney says “The state needs every tool at its disposal and the bills passed this year are a strong step in the right direction to get people into treatment and get these drugs off our streets.” The bills themselves include expanding the distribution of medicine for opioid addiction, requiring schools to have emergency protocols for overdoses, and expanding access to fentanyl test strips on college campuses.
