An elderly San Jose man has been identified as the man who was struck and killed by a vehicle in Mendocino County early Saturday morning. Eighty-one-year-old Gary Baughn was driving his truck north on Highway 101 just north of the Cal Fire Howard Forest Station when he crossed into the southbound lane and came to a stop. An approaching vehicle swerved to avoid hitting the truck and hit Baughn who had exited the truck. He was declared dead at the scene. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor and the road was wet and foggy at the time of the crash.
