Standoff at Petaluma Motel Ends with Suspect Shooting Himself

A standoff between Petaluma police and an armed suspect is over after the man shot himself inside of a motel room. The man, a Santa Rosa resident in his 50s, is hospitalized in critical condition. The suspect, wanted on suspicion of domestic violence and arson, shot himself on Tuesday afternoon after armored police vehicles surrounded the motel. The man had barricaded himself inside a room at a Best Western, forcing the temporary evacuation of hotel staff and guests. Police had been trying to arrest the man since Saturday night.
