The Sonoma County wine harvest is officially underway. Experts say Chardonnay grapes were the first to be picked at Geyserville’s Dutcher Crossing Winery just after 2 a.m. Though the overall yield is expected to be below average, the grapes are anticipated to be of high quality. Grapes that are used to make sparkling wine are usually the first to be harvested. The Sonoma County harvest is expected to last until the end of October. The Napa Valley started its harvest on Monday.
