New School Year To Begin This Week

This week marks the beginning of the new school year for Santa Rosa City Schools.

The first day of school for about 12-thousand-500 students is Wednesday. It follows several months of major overhauls for the district, largely driven by its financial shortfalls. The district closed several schools, redesigned curriculum, reassigned teachers and rehabbed campuses. In February, school board members voted to close three middle schools and three elementary schools during the next two years.

That and other moves reduced the budget deficit from at least 20-million dollars to eleven-million dollars.
