Sonoma County’s agricultural industry faced a challenging year, with the total value of its crops dropping to just over $857 million in 2024. That’s a decrease of more than 9% from the previous year, according to the annual Crop Report from the Sonoma County Department of Agriculture/Weights & Measures.
The report highlights the tough times faced by the county’s largest commodity, wine grapes, which saw a 12.6% decrease in value. However, it wasn’t bad news across the board. The apple industry bounced back strong, with its total value increasing by 21%. There were also gains in livestock and milk production, although the poultry industry was hit hard by the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, also known as the bird flu.
Overall, the report paints a picture of a resilient agricultural community working to overcome market fluctuations and other challenges.
