Santa Rosa City Schools are in a financial crisis. District officials confirmed at a board meeting Wednesday night they must cut $2.8 million immediately and find $23 million more for next school year to avoid state takeover.
The Press Democrat reports the community, including teachers and staff, blasted years of mismanagement, demanding accountability. The required cuts will necessitate massive layoffs, with interim finance chief Luz Cazares confirming most savings will come from school site staffing.
Union leaders, like those from the Teamsters, are rejecting calls for immediate pay concessions.
