Sonoma County’s watchdog, IOLERO, says the Sheriff’s Office failed to fully investigate an allegation that a deputy discriminated against an assault victim in Guerneville last year.
The Press Democrat reports the oversight agency found the Sheriff’s internal review of Isaac Featherston’s discrimination complaint was “incomplete,” making it impossible to confirm the department’s conclusion that no discrimination occurred.
Sheriff Eddie Engram disputes the finding, calling the watchdog’s process inconsistent and slow, arguing they don’t clearly state which policies need to be investigated.
IOLERO acknowledged deputies mishandled the initial criminal investigation, and Featherston said the final findings validated his complaint.
