Town officials warn that a severe budget crisis requires Windsor’s first-ever local sales tax to prevent deeper cuts to services.
Per the Press Democrat, staff are proposing a 1% sales tax for the November 2026 ballot, estimated to bring in $5.5 million annually. Windsor is the only city in Sonoma County without its own sales tax.
Officials have already made cuts, including police and maintenance delays, and warn the town faces a multi-million dollar deficit by 2029 without a new revenue stream.
The Town Council is discussing the proposed tax measure tonight.
