The Santa Rosa Planning Commission has approved a controversial proposal to quadruple the size of a recovery center in the Skyhawk neighborhood, from 6 to 24 beds.
The Press Democrat reports the decision was met with disappointment from local residents who fear the expansion of Pura Vida Recovery Services will bring safety and quality-of-life issues.
The facility’s owner, Alex Wignall, rejected those concerns as “baseless,” pointing to three years of operation without incident and the urgent need for more recovery services in the county.
The commission approved the conditional use permit with new requirements, but residents are considering an appeal.
