Ex-Sonoma Academy Teacher Sues School Amid Abuse Scandal

The sexual misconduct scandal at Santa Rosa’s Sonoma Academy has taken a new turn. Former humanities teacher, Marco Morrone, who was fired in 2020 after multiple graduates accused him of inappropriate behavior, is now suing the school.

The Press Democrat reports Morrone alleges Sonoma Academy fostered a toxic environment that blurred boundaries between teachers and students, creating the conditions for what he calls unfounded claims against him.

In a separate move, he is fighting a confidential settlement reached between the school and the graduates who sued, arguing the public deserves to know the “truth” about their financial motivations.

The school is not commenting on the ongoing legal matter, which follows a report that found Morrone acted inappropriately with 34 students during his tenure.
