Santa Rosa Memorial To Close Pediatric Unit In March

The pediatric unit at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital will officially close its doors on March 27, 2026.

The Press Democrat reports Providence Health says the space is needed for higher-demand adult care, but the move faces heavy criticism. Local doctors warn the closure will force hundreds of children to seek care outside Sonoma County each year—a shift they say will hit low-income and Medi-Cal families the hardest.

While critics call the process “opaque,” Providence maintains the unit is underutilized, averaging just two patients a day.

Kaiser Permanente will soon be the only hospital in the county offering inpatient pediatric care.
