Driver Rescued From Flooded Slusser Road

Heavy rains are already creating dangerous conditions on Sonoma County roads, leading to a dramatic rescue in Santa Rosa last night.

The Press Democrat reports emergency crews were called to Slusser Road late Sunday night after a driver became trapped in a foot of floodwater. The driver was forced to escape through their vehicle’s sunroof before being brought to safety by rescue swimmers.

That section of Slusser Road remains closed today, along with portions of Green Valley Road and Mark West Springs Road. The National Weather Service reports that Santa Rosa has already seen over three and a half inches of rain since Friday, with nearly eight inches recorded in Venato.

Forecasters warn the heaviest rain is still to come, with “nasty” conditions expected through Christmas. Officials remind drivers: if you see water on the road, turn around—don’t drown.
