Veteran Police Officer Becomes One Of The Oldest To Graduate From SRJC Firefighter Academy

51-year-old veteran police officer  Dack Thompson recently became one of the oldest trainees to ever graduate from the grueling, 585-hour SRJC Firefighter Academy. Thompson, a former San Francisco “Officer of the Year,” pushed through chronic knee injuries and even a mid-term surgery to complete the program.

Per the Press Democrat, The training is a requirement for the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety, where every officer is cross-trained to fight fires. Thompson says that despite the physical toll and daily doubts, he was determined to meet the high standards of the city he now calls home.

Now a fully cross-trained “Public Safety Officer,” Thompson is set to continue his career in Rohnert Park as an acting watch commander.
