Authorities have released the identity of a man killed in a scooter accident in Santa Rosa the day after Christmas.
According to the Press Democrat, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as 61-year-old Eric Johnson of Rohnert Park.
The incident occurred early Thursday morning at the intersection of Santa Rosa Avenue and El Portal Way. Police say Johnson was operating a motorized scooter when he was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators noted that Johnson did not appear to be wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. While Santa Rosa Avenue was closed for several hours following the accident, the road has since reopened. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
