Facing a historic budget crisis, Santa Rosa City Schools is pivoting toward a citizen-led parcel tax to avoid potential state takeover and offset a massive deficit.
Per the Press Democrat, the “Students First Coalition,” led by former supervisor Susan Gorin, aims to raise up to $20 million annually through a November ballot measure that would require only a 50 percent majority to pass.
While the tax wouldn’t provide funding until 2027, supporters say it is vital for long-term stability as the district prepares for deep immediate cuts to staff and mental health programs.
