Sebastopol has become the first city in Sonoma County to allow homeowners to sell “granny flats” or ADUs as individual condominiums, following a landmark City Council vote this week.
The Press Democrat reports under the new local ordinance, property owners can now buy and sell secondary units separately from the main house, a move aimed at creating more affordable homeownership options in a market where the median price sits at $1.4 million.
While housing advocates praise the decision for increasing inventory, Mayor Jill McLewis cast the lone dissenting vote, raising concerns over whether these new units will pay their fair share of local construction impact fees.
