Voters in Muir Beach will soon decide the future of their local fire protection.
The Muir Beach Community Services District has officially placed a new parcel tax measure on the June 2nd ballot.
The Marin Independent Journal reports the proposed measure would replace the expiring 2016 tax, which officials say is no longer enough to sustain the volunteer fire service. The new 10-year plan would start the tax at $386 per year—a hundred-dollar increase over the current rate—with annual adjustments for inflation.
The district plans to use the funds to build a new fire station and upgrade aging equipment. With only about 186 households in the small coastal community, officials say the tax is vital for maintaining the town’s independent fire response.
