Man Arrested After Hour-Long Chase Through Russian River

A wanted felon is in custody after leading Sonoma County deputies on a dramatic, hour-long chase through the Russian River.

According to the Press Democrat, the pursuit began Thursday afternoon in Forestville when a deputy attempted to pull over 25-year-old Raymundo Navarro-Jimenez, who was wanted on felony warrants out of San Joaquin County. Navarro-Jimenez abandoned his car near River Road and dove into the water, swimming across the river multiple times to evade capture.

The Sheriff’s helicopter, Henry-1, tracked the suspect from above with a searchlight until a Marine Unit sergeant and a State Parks lifeguard were able to reach him in the water. Navarro-Jimenez surrendered without further incident and now faces additional charges of evading and resisting arrest.
