Windsor officials are hosting a town hall at 5:30 tonight to get real with residents about the town’s worsening budget crisis and a potential new sales tax measure.
The Press Democrat reports even after slashing millions in spending and cutting police positions, the town had to dip into $7.8 million in reserves just to keep basic services running this year.
While property taxes are up, rising costs for police services and a drop in tourism revenue have officials warning that the current path simply isn’t sustainable.
To fix a projected $5 million deficit, the town is considering a one-cent sales tax for the November ballot, which could bring in over $5.5 million annually.
