Opening statements are underway in Santa Rosa for the trial of Varinder Singh, the man accused of the brutal 2022 murder of his sister-in-law.
Prosecutors told jurors that Singh stabbed Kuljeet Kaur 37 times in an attack so violent the handle of the kitchen knife actually broke off during the struggle.
While the defense is pointing to mental health struggles and family pressure as factors, the prosecution says the killing was a calculated act of rage that spilled from the home and into the street.
