Santa Rosa City Council To Consider “ICE-Free Zones”

Santa Rosa leaders meet today to discuss new ways to shield immigrant communities from a surge in federal enforcement, including a proposal to bar ICE agents from using city facilities like parks and City Hall.

The Press Democrat reports the City Council is also considering a resolution demanding higher training standards and body cameras for federal agents, following recent fatal shootings during immigration operations in other states.

While the city already limits cooperation with federal authorities, officials say these new “ICE-free zones” would align Santa Rosa with similar policies recently adopted in San Jose and Alameda County.
