Safari West To Become A Nonprofit

A Sonoma County landmark is entering a new era. Safari West, the 400-acre “Sonoma Serengeti” in Santa Rosa, has announced it is transitioning from private ownership to a nonprofit organization.

The North Bay Business Journal reports after more than 35 years under the leadership of founders Peter and Nancy Lang, the preserve will now be stewarded by the newly formed Safari West Zoological Society. The move is designed to ensure the long-term sustainability of the preserve’s mission: global conservation, research, and education.

Owners say there will be no disruption to daily operations or animal care during the transition. Once the nonprofit status is finalized, the society will be able to accept tax-deductible donations and grants to further protect the hundreds of animals that call the preserve home.

Nancy Lang noted that the change “strengthens the foundation” for Safari West to serve the community for generations to come. For more details on the transition, you can visit SafariWest.com.
