A financial cliff is leaving thousands of North Bay residents uninsured this year.
The Press Democrat reports new Covered California data reveals a 33% plunge in new enrollments across the North Bay. The drop follows the expiration of federal tax credits that previously made premiums affordable.
The impact is sharpest for Latino and Black communities, where new sign-ups fell nearly 40%. Middle-income families are also reeling, with new enrollments crashing by 59%. While many residents are keeping their coverage by switching to cheaper, high-deductible “Bronze” plans, officials warn that for many, the cost of staying healthy has simply become too high.
