Santa Rosa Launches $1.5 Million Overhaul of Sonoma Avenue

Drivers in Santa Rosa should prepare for a slower commute as construction kicks off on a key stretch of Sonoma Avenue.

Work began Monday on the busy block between Farmers Lane and Hahman Drive for a three-month project that includes a major “road diet.” The street will be reduced to one lane in each direction to make room for new bike and bus lanes, along with upgraded sidewalks and pedestrian ramps.

Beyond the surface changes, crews are also tackling essential water line replacements and pavement repairs.

City officials expect the $1.5 million project to wrap up by early summer, but they’re advising motorists to seek alternate routes to avoid daily delays.
