Rohnert Park residents are being urged to stay alert after a mountain lion was spotted Wednesday morning in the city’s G Section.
The sighting occurred in the neighborhood bordered by Holly Avenue and Snyder Lane, though police say there is currently no immediate threat to the public. Wildlife officials remind the community that while seeing one can be startling, these cats are native to California and typically go out of their way to avoid humans.
With an estimated 75 mountain lions living across Sonoma County, authorities recommend keeping a close eye on pets and staying aware of your surroundings during early morning or evening hours.
If you do encounter one, experts advise standing your ground and making yourself look as large as possible.
