Santa Rosa is rolling out a wave of new cycling upgrades, from downtown parking to expanded e-bike access.
The Press Democrat reports commuters on Mendocino Avenue will notice 120 new bike racks and fresh Class II lanes between 4th and 10th Streets. Funded by air quality grants, the city is also using the racks to improve intersection visibility under new state safety laws.
Beyond parking, the Redwood Bikeshare program is expanding to 80 rentable e-bikes across 12 locations, including SMART stations.
While advocates like the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition praise the public upgrades, they note that bike parking at private businesses remains a choice for owners. With $60 million in transit projects currently underway, the city aims to eventually add nearly 200 miles of new bike lanes and paths.
