Hikers and commuters near Cloverdale should expect to see smoke today as fire crews conduct a coordinated prescribed burn at the Porterfield Creek Open Space Preserve.
The Press Democrat reports the Cloverdale and Northern Sonoma County Fire Protection Districts are leading the pile burn, which is scheduled for Monday and may extend into Tuesday. While the preserve remains open to the public, certain hiking trails will be closed, with updates posted directly on-site.
Officials are advising the community that the smell of smoke may be noticeable throughout the area during the operation. This planned burn is part of ongoing fuel reduction efforts to improve local fire safety.
For the latest information on trail access or burn status, residents can contact the Cloverdale Parks and Recreation Department.
