SRPD Urging Drivers To Look Twice For Motorcycles

With warmer weather bringing more motorcyclists to the road, the Santa Rosa Police Department is launching a month-long safety operation to curb a rising trend in traffic fatalities.

Officials are reminding drivers that motorcycles are easily hidden in blind spots, making it vital to always double-check mirrors and maintain a safe following distance. Motorcyclists are encouraged to stay visible by wearing reflective gear, using headlights during the day, and riding defensively to stay out of drivers’ blind spots.

Nationally, motorcyclists account for 15 percent of all traffic deaths, a number Santa Rosa hopes to reduce through increased enforcement and public education.

Whether you are on two wheels or four, avoid all distractions and never drive under the influence. Stay alert and share the road to ensure everyone makes it home safely this season.
