North Bay Honor Flight Veterans Receive Heroes’ Welcome At Sonoma County Airport

Twenty-one local veterans from the Korean and Vietnam Wars returned home to a cheering crowd Wednesday following the second annual North Bay Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

Per the Press Democrat, the group, representing Sonoma, Mendocino, and Marin counties, spent the week visiting national memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice.

Friends, family, and supporters lined the terminal at the Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport, waving American flags and saluting the returning heroes. Organized by a local nonprofit through community donations, the flight aims to give veterans the proper “welcome home” many never received decades ago.

The celebration concluded with a massive car procession along Airport Boulevard, offering one final show of gratitude as the veterans were escorted back to their families. It was a powerful reminder of the community’s deep respect for those who served.
