A 47-year-old man is behind bars in Santa Rosa following a tense, nearly ten-hour standoff on the roof of a Sonoma County bus.
Police responded to Mendocino and McConnell avenues Sunday night after Byron Poindexter of Pittsburg repeatedly called 911 asking for help from the top of the vehicle. Officers immediately evacuated the riders, closed down local traffic, and spent the night using de-escalation tactics to convince the man to climb down safely.
The standoff finally ended peacefully just before 7:00 A.M. yesterday morning when Poindexter descended on his own.
He was arrested without injury and booked into the county jail on charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
