A long awaited housing project near Santa Rosa’s Railroad Square has begun construction. Press Democrat reports that work on the Cannery project on West Third Street began on October 31st and that building will begin this summer. The two-acre property, which used to be a fruit-packing site, will be transformed into 129 affordable apartments expected to be completed by the beginning of 2025. Funding for the $95.2-million project is being provided by a state loan through the California Housing Accelerator program and a permanent loan from the real estate investment firm Jones Lang LaSalle.
