Sonoma County Population Down Over 23,000 From 2017

Sonoma County’s population is going down. State estimates show more people died than were born, and more people moved out of the county than in between July of 2021 and July of 2022. The county has lost about 23-thousand residents since its population peaked in 2017, representing a decline of about four-and-a-half-percent. Its population as of last July was a few more than 480-thousand. The steady population decline can be traced back to the Tubbs and Nuns Fires of October 2017.
