Another Atmospheric River Comes In Tonight

As many as 15-million people may be affected by flooding as another round of storms takes aim at California. Forecasters say another atmospheric river is expected to bring heavy rains to the central and northern part of the state today. This comes as residents are still struggling with impassible roads, overflowing rivers, and a levee breach that forced evacuations in Monterey County. Some areas could see more than six inches of rainfall. President Biden has already approved a state of emergency declaration to free up funds for millions of Californians impacted by severe weather since the beginning of the year.

Sonoma County will be under a high wind watch between late tonight and Wednesday morning. Forecasters are calling for gusts of up to 40-miles-per-hour in the valleys and about 50-miles-per-hour in the higher elevations. The National Weather Service says that means trees already sitting in saturated soil are at a greater risk of coming down, especially in the mountains and foothills.
