Santa Rosa City Councilman Eddie Alvarez is planning to close his cannabis business today. It comes after several weeks of him defying a city order telling him to shut down the business, called The Hook. The city is cracking down on the dispensary after its state permit was revoked. Alvarez has also failed to pay tens of thousands of dollars in state taxes for the business. Alvarez says he’s choosing to close rather than having a court order force him to do so. But, he may be getting out just in time. On Wednesday, the city’s attorneys asked for a judge’s order that would allow the city to forcibly close the cannabis dispensary. This is the first time Santa Rosa has tried to close a pot shop since adult recreational marijuana use was legalized in 2016.
