A Petaluma dog kennel says they’re fighting to stay open. It’s a Dog’s Life, which is on Skillman Lane just outside city limits, sent an email out to customers saying that neighbors and the county are trying to shut them down due to dogs’ barking. They claim the county is looking for “opportunities to financially cripple us into closing.” Supervisor David Rabbitt, however, tells the Argus-Courier a different story. While problems there have been occurring for at least four years, Rabbitt says the kennel’s license was renewed last April under a series of conditions. He also says that they face building code issues for unpermitted construction of five structures. A hearing officer sided with the county in that case but It’s a Dog’s Life is appealing the decision.
